After performing factor analysis with 7 items regarding bed control and the 57 items of the Japanese version of the Nursing Work Index-Revised (NWI-R57) developed by Kobayashi to construct a scale, we examined the correlation of job satisfaction with each item. For the items found to be significantly correlated with job satisfaction, we performed multiple regression analysis to examine their influences on job satisfaction. The influences were further examined separately among new, mid-career, and highly experienced nurses.\n[Results] Valid responses were obtained from 313 nurses (response rate:41.4%). The results of the multiple regression analysis identified the following items as factors having significant positive correlations with job satisfaction:“the management ability of the head nurse” ( b=0.237, p<0.001);“admission/discharge coordination” ( b=0.196, p=0.000);“quality assurance in nursing and staff participation in the hospital operations” ( b=0.190, p=0.001);“relationships between nurses and doctors” ( b=0.115, p=0.034);and “agreements on emergency admission” ( b=0.104, p=0.048).
