By clarifying the content of this support, this report will serve as a guide for helping stroke patients achieve a normal life.\n\n［Method］ The subjects were 4 stroke patient members of self-help group A. An interview guide of questions related to feelings and motivation in the self-help group was used for 30-minute semi-structured interviews, and qualitative induction was conducted.\n\n［Results］ The patients were 3 males and 1 female, average age 62.0. Average length of illness recovery was 15.5 years, average time at home was 15.3 years, and the number of years as mem-bers of the self-help group ranged from 1 to 10 years. Diseases at stroke diagnosis were cerebral hemorrhage （3） and cerebral infarction （1）．All suffered left hemiplegia and used a cane. Family environments ranged from living alone to with a large family. 7 categories and 19 subcategories were extracted from 115 support content codes. Categories were “gives me a place where I can re-lax and express myself freely,” “gives me drive to do things on my own,” “gives me a free per-spective without preconceptions,” “interactions with other members of the self-help group improve my confidence,” “gives me determination to keep going,” “gives me a desire to put my experiences to use,” and “teaches me things beyond the limitations of my own knowledge.”\n\n［Conclusions］ The most frequently mentioned support content was “gives me a place where I can express myself freely,” which shows that being part of a group is supportive and the nature of  strokes makes specific support methods effective.
