It seems generally accepted to measure blood pressure（BP） by automatic sphygmomanometer in the arm wearing shirt with thin sleeves, however, it is unknown how exactly the BP can be measured by automatic sphygmomanometer in arms wearing coat sleeves with various thickness. In this study, BPs were simultaneously measured in the bare right arm and the left arm wearing a shirt or a coat by two automatic sphygmomanometers of same model type, and the measured values were compared. The average difference in BP between the two arms was small （0.7/0.2 mmHg）. However, there observed a significant reduction in BP with a lapse of time（−4.2/−2.1 mmHg）. The measured BP values by the two automatic sphygmomanometers were quite comparable and the average difference was negligible（0.3 /−0.4 mmHg）. Wearing a shirt did not significantly affect the measured BP values（−1.5/0.3 mmHg）, however, the sleeves of coats produced the measured BP value difference of −4.2/1.3 mmHg in average and the difference in systolic BP was significant（p＝0.003）. It is concluded that, in the BP measurements using automatic sphygmomanometers, wearing a shirt does not significantly affect the measured BP values, however, wearing a coat significantly lowers the measured value of systolic
