It also discusses differences between hired nurses and modern visiting nurses, nursing autonomy from the viewpoint of visiting nurses, and legal aspects of the nursing system and education in Japan and England. Research methodology involved a literature study comparing laws and statistical data between Japan and England. Results: The results are presented as three figures and a chronological table based on data obtained from Japan and England. Conclusion: Domestic nurses were in demand in the early-twentieth century. The demand for ward nurses increased from the mid-twentieth century.
